Wendy Behary (USA)

Advanced Empathic Confrontation Strategies for Dealing with The Most Challenging Modes in Treatment

With 25 years post-graduate training and advanced level certifications, Wendy is the founder and director of The Cognitive Therapy Center of New Jersey and The New Jersey Institute for Schema Therapy. Wendy served as the President of the Executive Board of the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) from 2010-2014. 

Wendy has co-authored several chapters and articles on Schema Therapy and Cognitive Therapy. She is the author of "Disarming the Narcissist...” (New Harbinger, 2013) translated in 10 languages. She lectures both nationally and internationally to professional and general audiences on schema therapy, and the subject of narcissism, interpersonal relationships, anger, and dealing with difficult people. 

Dr Susan Simpson (UK)

Working with Self-Flagellation and Guilt in Schema Therapy

Susan Simpson is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of experience using schema therapy with complex clinical problems and personality disorders. She has completed advanced certification as a trainer and supervisor both in Schema Therapy and Group Schema Therapy. Susan has published several research papers on schema therapy for complex eating disorders, and has presented her findings at numerous international conferences. She currently works in the field of Eating Disorders both in private practice and NHS Scotland, and continues to provide teaching and supervision in Schema Therapy across several countries. She continues as Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of South Australia.

Dr Andrew Phipps (Australia)

I Want To Break Free: Accessing and Building the Happy Child Mode in Schema Therapy

Andrew is a Clinical Psychologist and Advanced Schema Therapist/Trainer from Sydney, Australia. Andrew has 20-years of clinical experience, spending most of his career in public mental health settings. He spent some recent years as an academic at Western Sydney University. He now works entirely in private practice. He continues to work as a consultant for several mental health services in Sydney. Andrew maintains a teaching role at the University of New South Wales, and conducts accredited schema therapy training and supervision across Australia. In addition to his work in the schema therapy space, he has published in the field of early intervention for trauma, self-help treatment for depression, and clinical outcomes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Professor Marleen Rijkeboer (Netherlands)

Schema therapy for Dissociative Identity Disorder; scientific background and practical overview of the treatment


Marleen Rijkeboer is a professor of clinical psychology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Over the last 20 years she has been at the forefront of schema therapy research and clinical application. Via her research and practice, she has actively advanced the quality and implementation of schema therapy for organizations in the Netherlands and internationally. For 15 years, she has been a member of the board of the Dutch Association of Schema Therapy, serving for the past five years as President. She has also been awarded honorary life membership to the International Society of Schema Therapy. She has been a principal research investigator into the application of Schema Therapy to Dissociative Identify Disorder. 

Remco Van Der Wijngaart (Netherlands)

Emotional growth; how to generate corrective emotional experiences in Limited Reparenting


Remco van der Wijngaart, Advanced Schema Therapist and trainer

Remco  works as a psychotherapist in a private practice in Maastricht, the Netherlands.  Initially trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, he was trained and supervised in Schema Therapy personally by Dr Jeffrey Young from 1996 till 2000. Remco specializes in borderline patients, patients with cluster C personality disorders as well as Anxiety and depressive disorders.

Since 2000 he frequently has been given training courses and supervisions in Schema Therapy worldwide. He produced and directed several audio-visual productions, e.g. “Schema therapy, step by step” and “Schema therapy for the Avoidant-, Dependent- and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder”. In 2021 he published the book ‘Imagery Rescripting, theory and practice’.

Dr Lars Madsen (Australia)

The Joker: An Introduction to Forensic Schema Therapy Therapy


Lars is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist and Accredited Advanced Schema Therapist and Supervisor with experience working in the private and public sectors in both Australia and England. He has vast experience within community, hospital and institutional contexts applying schema therapy to complex adult difficulties both with clinical and forensic clients. In the course of hhis work as an advanced accredited schema therapist he has been called as an expert witness to the Supreme Court on the application of the schema therapy to high-risk offenders. In recent years he has also provided supervision for accreditation and delivered schema training to staff within prisons and the parole and probation services as well as mainstream settings.
